For centuries, humans have been threatened by plague and other mass afflictions. Maladies were seen as a population's punishment from a higher power. During times of deep uncertainty, it is natural to feel fear, grief, loneliness, and longing. However, history (and music) records that those afflicted also experienced profound love, deepened friendships, new outlooks, and—in some cases—awe of their resourcefulness and survival.
Seraphic Fire’s intention with Still. Here. is to honor music created during various times of trouble and malady, and to illustrate the hope that endures. November’s in-home presentation incorporates stunning choral and solo performances that are made more relevant by the in-depth research, poetry, and period art that will accompany them.
